Home Page > Information > Doors Info.. > Separate Doors | Back Problems With Buying Your Hangar Door Separately REIDsteel design and build their own doors into their own hangars. There is one line of responsibility and everything structural is there. Sometimes we are asked to put in doors by others; for example Megadoors in places with no space for outriggers, but where the full width needs to be opened. But there are pitfalls. The hangar door weight is carried on the steel work, so the front truss needs to be stronger and stiffer; and the canopy and access have to be designed to suit, often at some expense. Other door manufacturers often exclude vital components (the cladding for example - the seals - even the top guide structure). Obviously the hangar designer has to make up these shortfalls, often at considerable cost. Not only this but some door manufacturers save a few pennies by limiting deflection tolerance in the upper door track. This tiny saving on the door can result in the front truss having to be twice, five times, ten times stronger, heavier and more expensive! Our recommendation is; if you are buying the hangar from us, then buy the doors from us too. This will save you money (although it is not always obvious from looking at other door manufacturers quotes), and you will end up with a good hangar and door combination that works!
